The North Canyon High School Bands
A world class music program does not just happen. Like the parts of any successful musical ensemble, it requires inspired leadership, dedicated musicians, motivated boosters, and individuals like you who believe in the value of the performing arts. It is with this in mind that we are proud to introduce the NCHS Bands Shares Fundraising Program. What is the NCHS Bands Shareholder program? Traditional fundraising programs often rely on the sale of products such as cookie-dough, popcorn, cookies, and gifts of which the fundraising organization typically retains only 30% of the profits. These programs are short-term efforts usually limited to neighbors, nearby relatives, and co-workers whose giving is stretched by competing fundraising efforts. The Shareholder program takes a different long-term relationship building approach. Participants “invest” in the band and its musicians through the purchase of low-cost fundraising shares. “Investor” dividends include a wide range of benefits including shareholder certificates, regular band updates, recognition in the band website and in concert program inserts, membership in the Shareholder Tiers program, and eligibility for many other special activities including “honorary director for the night”, “buy the band”, special raffles, etc. Perhaps the greatest dividend is the knowledge that between 95-98% of the proceeds will go directly to the band and into its member’s individual accounts. NCHS Bands Shares are also tax deductible. How much do NCHS Bands Shares cost? The NCHS Bands Share program offers three types of shares: Scholar Shares $2 per share How does the NCHS Bands Shareholder program work? Members of the NCHS Bands sell Scholar Shares to fellow students through word of mouth and at school functions. This offers an inexpensive way for NCHS students to demonstrate school pride and to engage in the performing arts. Plus, the holiday and spring concerts are the best dates in town! Proceeds from Scholar Shares will be dedicated to building school spirit in the performing arts. Students and parents sell Family, Friends, and Neighbors Shares. Family members, friends, and neighbors, especially those long distance contacts, are asked to invest directly in the student. Contacts with out-of-state relatives are especially effective. This also appeals to all of the former musicians out there, young and old, who remember the days of glory in their band programs! Proceeds will go directly into the student’s account to fund the annual band trip, band camp, etc. Band boosters reach out to the local business community to sell Business Shares. Merchants are barraged by fundraising requests. The Business Shares offer a low-cost way to connect merchants with the band through which other mutually beneficial long-term opportunities may develop. For example, the band students represent a key marketing demographic for certain merchants. These vendors may be willing to sponsor a NCHS Bands day where a percentage of sales is donated back to the bands. The bands may advertise the event to bring in other students, friends, and family members to participate. Proceeds from the Business Shares and collateral events will go directly to the band for the purchase of new instruments, band equipment, entry fees, uniform maintenance, etc. Other special opportunities are in the works. Ownership of a timeshare in Sedona, AZ has been donated for a raffle drawing for eligible Family, Friends, and Neighbors Shareholders with at least five shares. The drawing will be held at the year-end shareholder meeting/spring concert. For additional information, please contact: Sue Cutaia at
